Replacements are sized to the household, installed with the drain pan, expansion tank and venting the Florida Building Code requires, permitted, and registered with the manufacturer so the warranty is valid. The old unit is hauled away.
The plumber tests the elements or burner, the thermostat, the relief valve and the tank, then explains what failed. You get a written price for the repair and, if it makes sense, for a replacement. Standard replacements are done the same day; tankless conversions are usually one full day.
